SUPPLY LIST
PAINTING WITH THREAD: FREE MOTION MACHINE EMBROIDERY

FABRIC

•  Think “autumn colors” – golds, reds, oranges, browns, dark greens . . . you get the idea!

•  Bring an assortment of fat quarter-sized pieces, and choose fabrics that are solid, or appear semi-solid so that your threadpainting will be easy to see. You’ll be using 2 of these fabrics for the backgrounds and 2 for the leaves, so make sure they contrast well with each other. You probably won’t need more than 4 fat quarters, but you can bring more if you want!

•  Bring any beautiful, inspirational autumn-type prints that you may have or happen to see in a quilt shop. We’ll be making SMALL pieces, so you won’t need more than ½ yard of any prints!

THREAD

•  The more, the better! That’s my motto in life!

•  At least 4 spools of solid or ultra twist rayon (40, 35 or 30 wt is okay!) that will contrast with the solid or semi-solid fabrics you’ve chosen, plus one or two variegated colored threads.

•  A few spools of 50 or 60 wt. cotton thread in colors that contrast with your solid/semi-solid fabrics.

• Optional: A couple of spools of metallic thread (Madeira & Superior are great brands)

 NEEDLES

#75/90 Schmetz Embroidery Needles – these are two different sizes. You can buy an assortment pack!

#80 Schmetz Metallica Needles (optional, if you want to use metallic threads!)
