if you have trouble finding any of the brands listed below.

  • Basting thread

  • Thick, SMOOTH threads. Some examples are:

  • YLI Candlelight

  • Ribbon Floss

  • Maderia Decor

  • Kreinik Metallic

  • 1/16" Ribbon

  • Madeira Glamour

  • YLI Pearl Rayon

  • Kreinik Metallic Very Fine Braid #4

    NEEDLES:

    • Hand needles: John James Long Darners
    • Machine needles: Size 75 "Quilting" type needles

                        OTHER SUPPLIES:

    • Well-adjusted sewing machine with which you have a good relationship — remember to pack your snap-on or free-standing extension table, the manual that came with your machine and a telephone book to sit on (or bring a pillow, if you are a delicate flower — six hours on a telephone book can be hard in more ways than one)
    • Masking tape
    • Darning foot (if you use a "Big Foot", bring it, but be sure to pack any other darning feet you may own!) If you’ve never used a darning foot before, try to get one from the manufacturer of your sewing machine, it will work better than a "generic" foot.
    • Applique foot (#20 for Bernina owners)
    • Walking foot
    • At least six EMPTY bobbins.
    • Sewing Machine Oil (even if your machine shouldn’t be oiled – we’ll be using it for something different!)
    • Cotton Swabs (not Q tips brand – buy the cheap store-brand ones, they’re better!)
    • Chenille Sticks or Stems (they look like pipe cleaners. You’ll find them in a craft store)
    • notepad and Pencil
    • small Scissors or thread snips
    • the little tiny screwdriver that came with your sewing machine

                        RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

A second bobbin case. If you don't already own one, don't go out and buy one.
