Art
Nouveau Tree I chose a tree image for this response to a challenge to interpret my version of the art movement known as Art Nouveau. The spirals that I love to include in my quilts seemed to fit in with the overall decorative nature of the art nouveau movement. I chose soft colors, and used lots of scraps from my "pre-fused" fabric collection for the very tiny triangles, circles and teardrops. A layer of iridescent, multi-colored tulle covers all the little pieces, and then heavy quilting was added to the background in a very tiny stipple pattern. Night
Gardening February 2001 30-1/2" wide x 40-1/2" high cotton fabrics & tulle, cotton batting machine appliquéd and machine quilted, "painted" with crayon Inspired by the book of the same title, a novel by E.L. Swann. It's a beautiful, gentle, romantic little story about passion and healing and timeless love -- and gardening! I tried some new techniques for this quilt. I wasn't happy with the background fabric once all the appliqué was completed, so I colored it with three different crayons and then covered the entire piece with a layer of purple iridescent tulle before quilting.
