The Blue Lady January, 2004 15" wide x 21-1/2" high cotton and synthetic fabric, cotton batting and beads machine pieced, appliquéd, and quilted, hand beaded This lady is blue, although she was inspired by an ancient painting in red. The original figure, painted thousands of years ago in Ennedi, Chad, lacks breasts or any other determining features. The experts who "know" about such things have determined that the figure is most probably a male, due to the staff he carries. Those learned experts have decided that the staff symbolizes great power, therefore, he must be a male. Poo, I say. Besides, what man do YOU know with hips like those? My blue lady is modestly covered in beads and thinly veiled by a transparent lacy fabric appliquéd with free-motion satin stitching. The mysterious plume rising from the top of her head might symbolize some great spiritual power -- or perhaps she was having a bad hair day? To view a close-up detail of The Blue Lady, click [not available]. Exhibited:

The Red Lady October, 2004 18" wide x 24" high cotton & synthetic fabrics, cotton batting machine pieced and appliquéd and machine pieced
This lady is red, inspired by an
ancient painting in the same color. The original figure, painted
thousands of years ago in Ennedi, Chad, lacks breasts or any
other determining features. My red lady is dressed splendidly
with golden accents, her fabric appliquéd with free-motion satin
stitching. The mysterious circle above her head might symbolize
some great spiritual power. |
