About
Elizabeth
Galleries Gallery of Rock 'n Roll Fruit

I am a child of the sixties. John, Paul, George & Ringo provided the soundtrack for my adolescence (okay, probably my entire life!) and songs with the Motown sound were my lullabies. Using song titles as the titles of these art quilts was a natural for me. If you start thinking about it, you'll be amazed at how many rock 'n roll song titles contain the name of a fruit -- really!  I have an entire list of songs just waiting to become art quilts!

All of the art quilts on this page are available for purchase, except where noted. If there is a particular piece you are interested in, please contact me for information.

I Heard it Through the Grapevine

December 2001
59-1/2" wide x 42" high
cotton fabrics, cotton batting
rayon & metallic threads, machine appliquéd and machine quilted w/hand-dyed cotton thread

I Heard it Through the Grapevine

The third quilt in my "Rock ‘n Roll Fruit" series. The lyrics of the song say: "People say believe half of what you see, and some or none of what you hear." It’s good advice, whether you choose to listen to Marvin Gaye's version -- or Gladys Knight and the Pips. I still haven't decided which is my favorite, so I listen to them over, and over, and over . . . .

The second quilt in my "Rock ‘n Roll Fruit" series. If you've ever heard Donovan's song, "Mellow Yellow," then you'll know how to pronounce the name of this quilt. It’s gonna be the very next phase!

Strawberry Fields Forever
September 1998
65 wide" x 50 high"
cotton fabrics, cotton batting
machine pieced, appliquéd and quilted

Strawberry Fields Forever

The first in my "Rock ‘n Roll Fruit" series. John Lennon's beautiful song has always been one of my favorite Beatle songs. The haunting melody, along with the lyrics John Lennon wrote as an ode to a childhood Liverpool memory, were my inspiration for the quilt's design. The quilt is machine pieced, machine appliquéd and machine quilted.
